STED/STORM Microscope
The Abberior Instruments STED/STORM microscope at the BIN represents the latest technology in superresolution fluorescence microscopy.
The system provides 5 excitation wavelengths and 4 detection channels for the simultaneus imaging of up to 4 different fluorescent markers. Using 2 additional laser light sources in STED mode (Stimulated Emission Depletion), the resolution can be improved beyond the limit given by the diffraction of light. Furthermore, the system allows the acquisition of superresolution images using the STORM technique (Stochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy).
The images recorded with the STED/STORM microscope will be correlated with data acquired by Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS). This novel Correlated Optical and Isotopic Nanoscopy (COIN) method allows insight into the processes within the cell with unprecedented accuracy.
